Technical requirements

The Bruce Purdy Magic Show is designed to be as flexible as possible. Although the show will look it’s best under “Ideal” conditions, even under the most basic situations the entertainment value and audience response will be superb!

Stage

If a well equipped auditorium is available, this would be ideal, however even a “stage” at the end of a gymnasium or cafeteria can be used. In a pinch, it is possible to perform on the floor of a gym, however in order for everyone can actually see everything, a raised platform is far preferable.

The  space needed for the playing area is 20′ wide by 12′ deep. Again, we can work with less space if necessary, but more is always better.

The stage and backstage areas must be cleared prior to our arrival, and not used for storage, classroom or other use.

Seating

If an auditorium is used, then seating is already in place. If a Gym, Cafeteria, banquet hall or other space is used, then folding or stacking chairs should be used. The front row of seats should be about 8′ from the front edge of the playing area.

Lighting

If an auditorium with adequate stage lighting is used, we will use it. You will need to provide someone knowledgeable and qualified to operate it. In the event that adequate lighting is not available, we carry our own self-contained stage lighting system. If we use our own lighting, an operator will not be needed, however someone should be available to turn the room lights off and on as needed.

Sound

We carry our own  self-contained sound system.

Curtains

If a working front curtain is available, we would like to use it.

We carry all other stage curtains needed, which we will use unless adequate stage curtains are available.

Backstage / Dressing Room

If a dressing room adjacent to the stage is available we would like to use it, if not, we will use backstage. The stage and backstage area should be considered “restricted areas” and limited to the performer(s) and other authorised personnel.
